Support MB Midwives!
As a birth photographer and having been on the receiving end of midwifery care twice, I can say with 100% certainty that what these women do is invaluable and the fact that they have been working in our province without a contract for almost 2 years is really disturbing. The fact that we have 53 midwives operating in Manitoba, when there is demand enough to support 200 midwifery positions is equally disturbing. It's time for us all to speak up.
We cannot afford to lose any more or our precious midwives to other provinces that compensate and treat them better. Yesterday, my sons and I attended an information picket and stood in (cold) solidarity with our midwives. They recently voted 91% in favor of strike action if a fair agreement isn't reached. This would be devastating and I know that for our midwives, a strike is the LAST thing they want to happen. But this is why we all need to speak up and speak out and back them up. Cheers friends & followers! Spread the word and the midwife love!
