Another year gone │ Back to Blogging │ Winnipeg Family PhotographerWinnipeg Family PhotographerA summer recapWhat a year... I fell off the blog train really bad this past year. Life was just too overwhelming and maintaining my website fell by the wayside. Though I'm going to try to get back on top of it because there are some exciting things coming up, I have a lot of beauty to share with you from the past year, and an exciting announcement for next year. So a little recap... Being a household with 2 self employed grown-ups (one of which also works a day job, and the other is also home-maker) and 2 small humans means we don't have a ton of time and in all honesty, I have been pretty horrible about documenting my own life this year. Our family's 2018 album is going to be pretty thin, and that makes me sort of sad. But there were some amazing moments that I captured for myself, and before I start sharing some of the magical sessions I've been honoured to capture this past year (and there are MANY) I'll share a bit of what we have been up to... Sleepovers, BBQ's and popsicles with my favorite humans.
And butterflies.... many many butterflies. This was our second year raising monarchs and eastern black swallowtails. Next year we will be scaling back our butterfly rearing efforts in exchange for creating butterfly friendly habitats in our yard and possibly applying to be a Monarch Way Station. The more we raised and the more research we did, the more we realized the best way we can help is by ensuring these butterflies still have a habitat and access to their native host plants. Though we will likely still raise a few, because there is nothing more magical than watching a caterpillar turn itself into (as my dear dad calls it) a bag of protein soup (or chrysalis if you prefer the more technical term), then magic itself into a completely new creature. Plus, butterflies are breathtaking, and my kids have learned SO much.
We went on a couple of family adventures too. My family reunion. A trip to Grand Forks. And just regular family adventures around our own beautiful city.
And the in between moments. The rare times Daddy has been home to snuggle. A couple of birthdays. First dentist appointments, finishing kinder and starting grade one for the big... another year in preschool for the little. Learning how to ride bikes with no training wheels.... the big little things.
I have some amazing client sessions I'm going to finally be sharing from the past couple of years so stay tuned, because celebrating your real life moments with you fills my soul. Remember friends, our lives don't have to be perfect to be beautiful. Just slow down and take it in. Because, as this year has shown me, the days feel oh so long.... but the years truly are short. Cheers friends.

Oh, wow! These are amazing photos! Such beautiful compositions and layers. I find myself stopping on each one and really studying the details. What a beautiful collection of memories from this year's adventures. I'm always guilty of taking too many and not printing mine out, so I need to get onto it, otherwise my own 2018 will be thin too! Creating more butterfly habitat is a good idea.
